LOCALLY SOURCED SOUNDS
Presenting an ENTIRE SEASON of music by the composers living among us.
2024 - 25 season
In our 2024-25 season, we present an ENTIRE SEASON of music by the composers living among us. Locally Sourced Sounds goes live in September and will continue throughout the season, with works by composers spanning several generations and reflecting the diverse experiences of our region. We celebrate longtime Portland artists David Schiff and Bonnie Miksch, exciting new neighbors Caroline Shaw and Andy Akiho, intriguing innovations in electro-acoustic music including works by Kirsten Volness and William Campbell, and a special collaboration with Native American musician, educator, and activist Jan Michael Looking Wolf.
HEADWINDS
Celebrating composers whose music, innovative ideas, or very own existence has overcome systemic resistance just to be heard
2023 - 24 season
HEADWINDS featured 25 composers from nine countries, 40% BIPOC, 100% female. The 23-24 concert series at the Old Church Concert Hall received additional performances at a new, informal Sunday morning series at Reed College’s Eliot Chapel called De-Mystifying New Music. In this unique lecture/performance experience, the musicians will deconstruct and de-mystify one or two works over the course of an hour, giving audiences the opportunity to experience a single work multiple times in one sitting. This hour-long lecture performance series was complete with pastries and coffee; and an opportunity to interact with the Fearless musicians (and composers) in an informal and intimate setting.
Generations:
A Music Family Tree Celebrating 25 Years of Young Composer’s Project
2022 - 23 season
This season Fear No Music explored the continuum of creativity that links composers from one generation to the next. To demonstrate this lineage, each program featured a new work, paired with the music of an earlier composer who influenced it.
As Fear No Music reached the 25 year milestone of our groundbreaking youth composer mentorship program Young Composer Project, the group reconnected with alumni of the program who have gone on to successful careers in music, including a world premiere commission by Chris Thomas.
