YCP Volunteer Commitment

Thank you for your commitment to supporting the Young Composers Project! Your participation is crucial to our success, and we truly appreciate your time and effort.

  • Each family is required to either complete 5 hours of volunteer service per season or opt for a $400 early buy-out by October 31. Any unfulfilled hours will be billed at $100/hour at the end of the season (May 1, 2025). 

    These financial contributions (i.e. buy-outs, goods donation or auction items) are tax-deductible. Fear No Music will provide documentation/tax receipts whenever possible. 

    Choose from the following Volunteer Menu; we have a variety of tasks to suit your schedule, and hours are stackable.  

    For Example: 

    • Attend a FNM concert with your YCP participant = 2 hrs

    • Bring 2 guests to the same concert = 3 hrs

    • Your 5 hour commitment is fulfilled

  • Early buyout deadline: October 31, 2024

    Final Hours Submission: May 1, 2025

    We encourage you to complete and submit hours early to avoid the end-of-season rush. Your involvement helps create a thriving environment for our young composers!

Volunteer Options

We have many different options to satisfy your volunteer requirement. Find something that works for you!

  • YCP Volunteer Coordinator: 5 hrs (limit 1 volunteer) – This is a year-long commitment and this coordinator will receive a complimentary Fear No Music t-shirt for themselves and their YCP student. 

    • Monitor volunteer sign-ups and hours completed 

    • Reminders and update emails: Send periodic updates on volunteer hours (completed and remaining) to help families stay on track

    Admin: emails to YCP families: 5 hrs (limit 1 volunteer) –This is a year-long commitment and this coordinator will receive a complimentary Fear No Music t-shirt for themselves and their YCP student. 

    Tasks include emailing:  

    • Related to YCP workshop/news or YCP updates 

    • Related to FNM annual concerts 

    • Emails as requested by Jeff or Monica/Rachel 

    • Alert volunteers to new volunteer opportunities 

    YCP Social for participants (limit 3 volunteers) 

    • Secure venue for social: 5 hrs (1 volunteer)

    • Help in coordination/event planning (with Monica/Rachel/Jeff): 5 hrs (2 volunteers)

    Mailings (unlimited) 

    • Address and mail 50 postcards to FNM patrons (1 hr per 50 postcards; 250 postcards = 5 hrs). Postcards are provided by FNM. 

    Poster delivery (5 hrs, limit 5 volunteers)

    • Help spread the word about FNM concerts! You will put up 25 posters (provided by Fear no Music) at your local shops/grocery stores/cafes.

  • YCP concert reception: 2 hrs (limit 2 volunteers)

    • Coordinate families in what they are bringing to reception

    • Set up reception at the concert, arrive early to receive reception foods/drinks 

    Bring ice  to YCP reception: 1 hour (limit 2 per concert, 4 volunteer spots total) 

    Help with YCP reception set up/strike down: 1 hour  (limit 2 per concert, 4 volunteer spots total ) 

    Post-concert reception for FNM event at TOC (Jan 27, June 2)

    • Volunteers will help with PURCHASING FOOD for post-concert reception– (suggested $100/total): 5 hrs (limit 2 volunteers per concert date, 4 volunteer spots total) 

    • Volunteers will help with SET-UP for post-concert reception– set-up foods during the second half of the concert for post-concert enjoyment.  Approximate time: 8-9pm.   

    5 hrs (limit 2 volunteers per concert date, 4 volunteer spots total) 

    De-Mystifying New Music at Reed College: (Nov 17, January 26, April 27, June 1) 

    Pick up donated pastries and help with set up (approx 9:30-10am): 3 hrs (limit 1 volunteer per concert date, 4 volunteer spots total)

  • YCP photographer 5 hrs  (limit 2 volunteers) 

    • Take photos of workshops and concert for website 

    YCP videographer: 5 hrs (limit 2 volunteers) 

    • Take video of workshops and concerts for website 

    FNM photographer:  5 hrs (limit 2 volunteers) 

    • Take photos of concerts for website

  • Auction items/basket: 5 hrs (unlimited volunteers) 

    • Procure item (suggested $100+/value) for fundraising/auction item 

    • Create a themed basket for auction (suggested total value $100+)

    • Secure Give!Guide incentive by October 31, 2024 

      • Value $25+ (Past incentives have included gift cards/gift certificates)

    Secure local business partner for FNM season: 5 hrs (unlimited) 

    • Advertising partner–Identify local business to approach to advertise in FNM programs, prepare an outreach email or pitch (with help from Monica/Rachel), and follow up to finalize sponsorship. 

    • Concert sponsor partner– Identify entity to approach to sponsor a FNM concert, prepare an outreach email or pitch (with help from Monica/Rachel), and follow up to finalize sponsorship.  

    • Goods/Services partner– Identify business to donate goods or services to FNM, prepare an outreach email or pitch (with help from Monica/Rachel) and follow up to finalize partnership.  (Bella’s Italian Bakeshop is a year-long goods partner providing pastries for De-Mystifying New Music Concerts.  Utilize your own network to connect FNM to possible partners).

  • Attend a FNM concert with your YCP participant: 2 hr/each concert 

    Concert invitation: 3 hrs (unlimited) 

    • YCP family brings 2 new patrons to a FNM concert during the year

    Take survey of audience at FNM concert: 2 hrs (limit 8 volunteers) 

    • Pass out and collect surveys of FNM audiences at intermission during concerts
